Planning ahead for the Chinese New Year

Some resources we found today, in preparation of the Chinese New Year...

  1. The most difficult part about Lunar New Year would perhaps be explaining the celestial geometry that necessitates a different calendar. I suppose the idea is to just skirt the specifics and explain that the calendar uses the moon instead of the sun :)

  2. @ Jonathan:

Explaining that the calendar uses the moon is actually just fine, because... another "trick" I have up my sleeve for later this month (as it gets closer to the next new moon) is to introduce a wonderful book called Thirteen Moons on Turtle's Back. I also found this turtle to go along with it, and already have two turtles printed out and ready to go! (One for each child... what one does, so does the other...)
