Bike safely -- an ideal set of health lessons!

I've been struggling with what to do for Health. It's one of the subject areas our state requires. The local public school curriculum includes things like drugs, alcohol, and smoking. But, these are topics I don't care to cover in our First Grade. And, the lesson on "smoking is yucky" is one which S. already has down pat.

I just stumbled across this Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety curriculum guide (PDF) from the Washington Area Bicyclist Association. Perfect! At the beginning of this month, S. graduated from his training wheels. As he shouted to a young neighbor, "I'm a two-wheel guy now!"

Since we try to walk, bike, or bus to as many of our local errands and other destinations as we can, this will be a very appropriate (and necessary) set of lessons to cover.
